History of the Establishment of Volkswagen Car Company

History of the founding of Volkswagen

The Volkswagen company came from a city called Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, in Germany.
This company was founded by the German Workers' Association in 1937, precisely on May 28, 1937.

The meaning of the name VOLKSWAGEN

The name Volkswagen itself comes from the German language which means people's cars.

The Volkswagen car brand is an official brand produced by the Volkswagen group of companies, besides that the Volkswagen group also oversees several well-known car brands, including:
Car brands are AUDY, BUGATTI, LAMBORGHINI, SCANIA, SEAT, SKODA AUTO, Bentley Motors, and around 2009 the Volkswagen Group also endorsed the establishment of an Automotive Group related to PORSCHE.

The founder of Volkswagen

The initial idea of the establishment of VOLKSWAGEN came from the Nazi leader at the time, Adolf Hittler.

Adolf Hittler has the ambition to create a car product for the People (VOLKSWAGEN), with the size of a standard car, can accommodate 2 adults and 3 children, and has affordable prices by the German people at that time.

The first designer of Volkswagen Cars

The trusted person to design the People's Car (Volkswagen) at the time was Ferdinand Porsche (Inventor of Porsche Cars).

Then in 1936, the first trial car was made by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart, and the car was named KDF-WAGEN.

This KDF-WAGEN car is designed to have a 4 cylinder engine and is installed behind, with air conditioning.

The shape of the car was later refined by ERWIN KOMENDA a car designer from the AUTO UNION company, and is now known as the Beetle car, and offers the first car to use a wind tunnel.

The establishment of a Volkswagen car factory

On May 26, 1938 the VOLKSWAGEN Car Factory was officially established which is located in a German city called KDF-STADT, the city is now called Wolfsburg.

On April 20, 1938 the factory produced Type-1 CABRIOLET Cars, which coincided with the 49th ADOLF HITLER birthday.

After that the factory was used to produce war cars for World War II purposes, the war cars produced at that time were the KUBELWAGEN type-82 cars, and the SCHIMMWAGEN amphibious car.

But soon after, finally the factory was severely damaged by a bomb in World War II.

Then in 1945, with the services of an English soldier named IVAN HIRST the VOLKSWAGEN car factory which was heavily damaged was rebuilt and began producing VOLKSWAGEN cars.

Hundreds of first manufactured cars were distributed to British soldiers and some were used for the German Post Office at that time.

The type of car that was widely produced at that time was the Volkswagen VW BEETLE.

Then in 1946, the factory could produce up to 1000 cars.

After that, in 1948 the Volkswagen car factory was returned to the German government, and became the main income for the West German side, and was able to produce as many as 1 million units of cars until 1955, when the type of car produced was the VW BEETLE TYPE-1.

In 1949, the Volkswagen production car began to be sold to the United States, which initially used the name VW Victory Wagon.

After that, the Volkswagen car company began producing a variety of different Car models, including:
